About Us

Ladakh Digest is Committed to Honest Journalism

Ladakh Digest is an RNI‑registered magazine (Reg. No. JKENG/25/A3328), printed in Srinagar and distributed across Ladakh and the wider Jammu & Kashmir region. Founded by journalist Shahid Ahmad Khan, who brings over 20 years of experience to the newsroom, our mission is to uphold integrity in mountain journalism and ensure newcomers don’t fall into the trap of self‑styled, unaccountable “journalism.” We mentor emerging reporters to build their names on registered, credible platforms and to practice the craft with rigor, ethics, and pride.

What we cover

Across the high-altitude landscapes of Ladakh and the diverse terrains of Jammu & Kashmir, a profound transformation is unfolding, told through the impactful stories of mountain communities where ancient culture meets modern resilience. This region is a tapestry of vibrant traditions, diverse languages, and soulful foodways, preserved by artisans who carry the heritage of their ancestors into a new era. Yet, this beauty faces the urgent reality of climate change, where the receding of glaciers and the protection of unique wildlife demand a commitment to conservation and responsible tourism led by local guides. Beyond the scenic routes, the pulse of public life is defined by evolving governance and critical advancements in infrastructure and education, providing a foundation for a burgeoning spirit of enterprise and local innovation. This narrative is ultimately driven by the perspectives of the youth—emerging voices sharing essays and interviews that bridge the gap between their storied past and a future built on sustainable livelihoods and bold new perspectives.
